Jeff Cook, guitarist who helped create the popular country band Alabama and helped them reach the top of the charts with songs like “Song of the South” and “Dixieland Delight,” has passed away.  He was 73.  Cook revealed his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2017.  According to Don Murry Grubbs, member of the band, he passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Destin, Florida.  Country music icons paid tribute to Cook, including Charlie Daniels, who tweeted that “Heaven acquired another guitar/fiddle player today,” and Travis Tritt, who called Cook “a fantastic guy and one heckuva bass fisherman.” Along with his cousins Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry, Cook had eight No. songs on the country charts between spring 1980 and summer 1982 as guitarist, fiddler, and vocalist, according to the Country Music Hall of Fame.  The songs “Tennessee River” and “Mountain Music,” as well as the pop crossover singles “Love In The First Degree” and “Feels So Right,” were all part of that run.  In statement, Kenny Chesney stated, “Jeff Cook and all of the guys in Alabama were so generous with advice and fun when got to tour with them as young artist.”  They demonstrated to young person wearing T-shirt that country music could be rock, could be genuine, and could be performed by someone who resembled me.  Being raised in East Tennessee gave me the heart to chase this dream.” Jeff Cook ‘s funeral arrangements will be revealed by his family.
